Sister Nuala Embarks on Faith Mission

Sister Nuala recently took her final vows at St. John’s Catholic Church has waved goodbye to Rochdale to embark on missionary work in Ecuador.
Sister Nuala Doherty, who grew up in Manchester Road, Rochdale has been a long-standing active member of St. John’s parish and decided to join Alice Ingham’s Franciscan Missionaries of St. Joseph in the new millennium.
A ceremony was held at the end of September, when she made her vows and it was attend by 300 people, including fellow sisters, parishioners, family and friends.
Sister Nuala was originally trained as a teacher, said: “It was wonderful to have the ceremony in the same church where I was baptised and had my communion. I was filled with a great peace and joy and loved every minute from beginning to end. It was lovely to have so many people to share that day with. I am now really excited about starting a new stage of my spiritual journey in Ecuador.”
Sister Maureen fmsj from St. John’s parish said: “I know the feelings of excitement and nervousness about going out to a new country. I also know how great the welcome will be when she gets there. Sr. Nuala has always been full of life and zeal. We are excited for her and wish her all the best.”
